This original red chair, model 416, was designed by Wim Rietveld and André Cordemeyer. The chair was produced by Gispen and introduced in a Brussels exhibition in 1958. The fiberglass shell had some damage, but has since been repaired. There are traces of wear and paint loss on the frame. The chair was made from one piece of moulded polyester, which was a new technique for the Dutch furniture making market at the time. The seat is supported by a tubular solid metal frame with rubber shock mounts. The chair weighs 9 kg.
